WELLINGTON.

April 20.

At a meeting last night of gentlemen interested in making a suitable acknowledgment to Mr J. H. Shaw and the others who contributed to the recent result of the Asylum enquiry, it was resolved that His Worship the Mayor be requested to call a public meeting to consider the result of the enquiry. It is understood that the Government intend to summarily dismiss Whitelaw, the Superintendent of the Wellington Asylum, in consequence of the Commissioners' report. The Government have further decided that the asylum shall be placed under the management of a duly qualified medical practitioner. With regard to the inspector, Dr. Skae, no final decision has been arrived at, but he is called upon to make an official reply to the charges contained in the Royal CommisßJoners' report.
