In consequence of the inclemency of the weather there was no quorum at the meeting of the Napier Rowing Club last night.

It will be seen by our report of the Harbor Board's meeting that the tender of the Daily Teleqbaph for advertising the Board's notifications was accepted.

The rain yesterday and last night which has been so beneficial to Napier, we regret to learn, has been confined mostly to the plains, very little having fallen beyond Paki Paki, to the south.

We understand that applications for shares in the Milton Pottery Company will close on the 23rd instant. Specimens of the ware manufactured by this company can be seen on application to Mr F. Pell, agent for the company in this district.

Two stacks of barley, the property of Mr J. N. Williams, near Hastings, were destroyed by fire last night. The fire was discovered at ahout 6 o'clock in the evening , . The origin of the fire is supposed to be a spark from the railway engine, tut as the stacks were situated fully eighty yards from tbe line it seema hardly likely. We have not heard whether the stacks were insured.

In consequence of the inclement wnather last night the attendance at the diorama at the Theatre Royal was not so large as on the previous evening , . The excellent views, and Lieut. Heroin's clear way of explaining them, appeared to give entire satisfaction to those present, and the ventriloquism was again the source of much amusement. The distribution of gifts took place as usual.

There are 1125 dwelling-houses in Napier, of which number 78 are unoccupied. It is expected that the census just completed will not show much addition to the population of the town, but it is known that the country districts have largely increased the number of their inhabitants. The population of Napier will be found to be pretty equally divided between the three wards, the total being 5600. Some months ago we stated that by the will of the late Dr Stokes the Napier Hospipital would come in for a substantial bequest. The morning print, not having obtained the news, gave our statement a direct contradiction, and even went so far as to say that the oopy of the will being in the hands of Messrs Wilson, and Ootterill, there was proof of the incorrectness of the report we had circulated. Our contemporary has now to eat the leak.
