THE PETANE AND PORT CRICKET CLUBS.

[To the Editor of the Daily Tbleoeaph.] Sir,—The explanation of the secretary to the Port Ahuriri Cricket Club in the Herald's issue of the 15th instant is satisfactory so far as tbe five members who turned up are concerned, but we cannot say as much for the members of that Club who were to be seen playing cricket in Clive Square and boating in the inner harbour. These men surely were not detained by business engagements, and we fail to see how the secretary's explanation can be accepted. We might in all fairnes3 also remind the secretary that the cricketers brought from all parts of the country were bona fide paying members ot the Petane Club, and the reason for collecting them together was that we considered this matcb the important match of the season, seeing that we were engaged with the Premier Club.—l am &c, Petane Cricket Club. Petane, April 16th.
