The attendance at the Otago public schools during the March quarter shows that 17,578 children were on the roll at tbe beginuing of the quarter, and 19,851 at the end. The average attendance was 16,249, being an increase of 777 over last j ear's quarter. The Board employs 438 teachers.

The barque Frederick Bassil took nearly one hundred passengers for tbe Mount Brown (New South Wales) diggings to-day.
