New Plymouth, AprP 2. The attendance at the second day's racing was not so large as on the first day, but the weather was glorious. Considerable annoyance was caused by the police giving notice to stop the totalisator owing to someone having called Inspector Bulleu's attention to an old Provincial Ordinance forbidding all kinds of lotteries. Not only the totalisator, but all games of chance were also stopped. A deputation waited on Inspector Bullen, and after representing that a breach of the peace was likely to ensue the Inspector consented to allow the totalisator and the ather games to proceed. HANDICAP HURDLE RACE. Of 50 soys., 2 miles, over 8 jumps. Morning Star, 9at 101b ... 1 Matau, list 2 Lady Grey fell al the second jump, and at the next one Chandler ran off the course. At the back of the course Dan challenged Libeller, and tbe pace was brisk. Dan led past the stand well iv front of Libeller, when King Quail made a rush and took first place. Endymion made an effort at the hill, but could not reach the leader. On rising the bill Libeller passed Dan and King Quail, got in front of Opawa, and soon left Dan behind, Opawa also being close to Kins Quail. Entering the straight Libeller was leading by a length. At about 50 yards from home King Quail got even with him, and speedily passed him by a length, Opawa taking second place, as Libeller had completely broken down.
