TARANAKI RACES.
(Ny telegraph.)
New Plymouth, AprP 2. The attendance at the second day's racing was not so large as on the first day, but the weather was glorious. Considerable annoyance was caused by the police giving notice to stop the totalisator owing to someone having called Inspector Bulleu's attention to an old Provincial Ordinance forbidding all kinds of lotteries. Not only the totalisator, but all games of chance were also stopped. A deputation waited on Inspector Bullen, and after representing that a breach of the peace was likely to ensue the Inspector consented to allow the totalisator and the ather games to proceed.
