AGRICULTURAL AND PASTORAL SOCIETY.
COMMITTEE MEETING-.
A committee meeting of the Agricultural Society was held at the' Criterion Hotel this morning. Present : Capt. Russell (in the chair), Messrs J. Anderson, W. J. Birch, Arch. McLean, James Lyon, John Heslop, R. Wellwood, Allan McLean, C. B. Winter, C. A. Fitzßoy, J. H. Ooleman, and T. Tanner. CORRESPONDENCE. A letter was read from Mr B. H. Bold informing the committee that the cost of a telegraph line from Hastings to the grand stand would be £35, and that the society would require to defray the coet, and to pay a sum of £5 annually. A letter was read from Mr J. Pinches, London, stating that the prize medals would be sent by first steamer. A letter was read from Mr Archibald McLean, informing the committee that Mr Douglas McLean, had intimated his willingness to present a ten-guinea cap to be competed for by Maori exhibitors only. The object to be determined by the committee. 1 SITE FOR OFFICES. Messrs "Winter and Coleman reported on various sites offered for offices for the society, but as the rentals were too high the matter was dropped for the present. CUP PRIZES. Moved by Mr Anderson, seconded by Mr Archibald M'Lean, and carried, " That no further entries be taken, or cnps on the old system be given, at future shows in the Merino, ram, bull, and cow classes; and that all the cup prizes shall cease when finally won in the respective classee." ADMITTING THE PRESS, Mr 0. A. Fitzßoy moved, " That ia future the members of the Press be admitted to all committee meetings." Carried. PLOUGHING MATCH. Messrs Wellwood, J. Bennett, J. R, Elliot, J". Hardy, Peter Kameey, and John Moore, were appointed a sub-com-mittee to arrange programme and regulations for the annual ploughing match and exhibition of grain and roots. Mr Wellwood moved, " That the ploughing match be held on the 24th of May." Seconded by Mr Birch, and Captain Russell notified his intention of giving a five-guinea cup to be competed for by three-furrow ploughs at the match. ANNUAL MEETING. Mr C. B. Winter moved, " That the annual meeting of the society be held on the first Friday in June." Carried. JUDGES AT THE ANNUAL SHOW. Mr J. H. Coleman moved, " That it ia undesirable that local talent should be made use of for judging at the annual show." The motion was carried. The meeting then closed.
