(Before H. Eyre Kenny, Esq. R.M.) CRIMINAL CASES.
James Wilke was sharged with cruelty to a young horse. Sergeant Kidd stated that the prisoner had the horse tied behind a cart on Thursday afternoon at Waipawa, and the animal was cut and bleeding by contact with the wheel. He was fined 10s and costs. Oscar Dreskey was summoned by Thomas Ellingham, both of Makaretu, for assault on the 16th March. Evidence was given by complainant, his wife, defendant, and a witness named Hoban who saw part of the affray. The whole substance of the matter abstracted would •bow that the two men, as neighbours, had a row, used bad language first, and then blows, when complainant's wife interfered and clubbed Ellingbam with s huge branch of tree, which was produced in Court- This caused Ellingham to club complainant, and here the matter ended. His Honor reflected on both parties for quarrelling, said it was hard to say who was most in fault, and dismissed the case. CIVIL CASES. Walker v. Erasi, claim for work done. No appearance of either party. Case •djourned to Kopua for Friday, Bth instant. Eliza Kathbone v. Nicholls. Judgment for plaintiff with costs, etc. Brighouse v. Tycett, claim £20 7s £& tot goods and money paid. Judgment for amount with costs, counsel's fee, and expenses of witness. Brighouse v. W. Jones, claim £9 19s lid. Similar decision as last. Dr. Mirbach v. Sbanley, claim £6 15s tor medical attendance, etc. Similar decision as last. Brown v. Brigbouse, claim £13 on a dishonored promissory note. Owing to the summons not being served for forty* eight hours the case was adjourned to Kopua on Friday, the Bth. An important case,Mullinderv. Woodward, was proceeding at the time our despatch left.
