The dwelling of P. H. Bailey, watchmaker, in the Canongate, was totally destroyed by fire last night owing to its inaccessibility. Mrs Bailey was in the act of retiring with a kerosene lamp in her hand, when it exploded. Bailey is insured for £100 in the Norwich Union office, and estimates his less at £300 above that on the house, which belonged to James Smellie, of North Tauri, was insured in the Standard office for £200.
Dr. Copeland was presented with a purse containing one hundred sovereigns on severing his ten years connexion with the North Dunedin Cburcb.
Bishop Moran leaves for Rome on the 21st April next. At the Eastern revtew to be held at Oamaru the question of holding a rifle meeting for Otago, Canterbury, and Southland annually will be discussed by the representing companies.
