March 25.

Up to yesterday the property tax to the amount of £53,636 had been paid in Canterbury. Mr M'Laren, of Christchurch, has sent two tons of seed peas to London with the view of testing the English market. The farmers in the Ellesmere district have appointed a committee to collect information with the view of establishing a cheese and butter factory.

The prospectus has been issued of another new coal company, with a capital of £10,000. The weather continues very hot and dry.
