HAWKE'S BAY COUNTY COUNCIL.

MONDAY, MARCH 21

Present: Messrs Sutton (chairman), Bennett, Torre, and Rymer. CORRESPONDENCE. From the Pakowhai Road Board, asking for a grant in aid for forming about three to four miles of the Pakowhai road. The Council agreed to vote one-third of the cost, same not to exceed £50. TENDERS. The'tollowing tenders were accepted for metalljng County roads: —Paid Paki road, Mr Dean at 3s lid ; Redclyffe via new Taradale bridge, Messrs Pulford and Lawton at 2s ll£d ; Tareba's bridge to junction of Peka Peka road, Mr Gebbie at 2s; Tareha's bridge to Waitangi, Messrs Pulford and Lawton at is id; Waitangi to Paki Paki, Mr M'Pherson at 2s 4d ; from crossing at railway station at Hastings to where it meets the road from Waitangi to Havelock, Messrs Hayes and Lynne, at is 7d; Taupo road from boundary to Petane school-house, Messrs Pulford and Lawton, at lsGd; Petane school-house to Kawaaka, Messrs Cooper and Pulford, at Is sd. Road Oveeseer's Report. County Roads. —I have examined the different County roads, and I find they are in good order for traffic. Havelock and Hastings Bridge.—On examining the bridge after shingle covering had been removed, I found the flooring in a state of decay, and particularly so where sap appeared. I have recommended that this bridge required new flooring, which has been authorized by the Council and is now in progress. 'J'AEEnA's Bridge Road.—The metalling of this road is now completed, and the road . open for traffic. A large culvert has been erected, using the old totara bridge for planking. New Taradale Road Bridges.—The ~ repairs to the small bridge near railway crossing as authorized are now complete. The planking for the Tutaekuri bridge has Arrived, and the repairs will bo proceeded wi&h a* ongo,

Wairoa Koad. —This contract will be completed by tho end of this month. . BLATJGHTE3 HOUSES. The Inspector reported that all the slaughter houses under his supervision had been properly conducted during the month. OLD timber.. On the overseer's report on the old timber belonging to the Council being read, it was resolved that a circular be sent to all the Road Boards in the County offering the timber at 2s per 100 feet. tutaekuhi bridge. Mr 0. Kennedy reported the satisfactory progression of the work on this bridge. OMAfiO ROAB. Mr Bennett moved " That the overseer of roads be requested to make a estimate as to the cost of metalling the Oraahu road, commencing at end of present metalling past Korokepo, and ending ten chains past mill stream dam. Also, cost of forming road where required between the above named places. And that tenders be called for the above, said fenders to be considered at next sitting day. And that the lowest tender be accepted if reasonable, providing tha half the amount be contributed by parties interested in the road. Seconded by Mr Rymerand carried. PETANE BO*DS. Mr Torre gave notice that he would move, " That the overser be requested to report upon taking over the line of road between Petane school-house and the Stockade ; also that he form an estimate of cost of metalling the new piece of road now formed between Petane and Tongoio. postponement of motion. Mr Tanner's motion to authorize policemen to destroy dogs under the Act was postponed. WAIKOA PETITION. The consideration ot the Wairoa petion re lands was postponed till next sitting. The Council then adjourned.
