At Palmerston William Ernest, the borough clerk, has been committed for trial for embezzlement.
Mr Downie Stewart, M.H.8., withdraws unreservedly all the statements made by him reflecting on Mr Macdermott'a professional conduct, and reqrete that, under a misapprehension of the facts, he should have made them. The action will therefore be stopped. The trustees of the Kaitangata relief fund paid away £1410 during the year to the sufferers, and carry forward ,£4OO. W. Forstcr, aged eight years, died in the hospital to-day from a kick from a horse, causing fracture of the skull. He wne pluyinur in v paddock at Forbury, and flipping a horse with a switch, when it struck out and kicked him.
