In the Legislative Assembly to-day the Hon John Lackey, the Minister for Public Works, introduced bis public works statement, in tbe course of which he announced that it was proposed to undertake the construction of several additional lines of railway in the colony, involving an expenditure of £8,750,000. The debate on the proposal was opened, but was adjourned till Tuesday next. A sculling match for £100 aside took place to-day on the Clarence River, near Grafton, between Rush and Pearce, two well-known oarsmen, and resulted in a victory for the former. News from the Mount Brown diggings gives very unsatisfactory accounts of the state of tbe field.
