Dv Johnston once silenced a lady backbiter, who was condemning some of her Mends for painting their cheeks, by the remark that it is a far less harmful thing for a lady to redden her own complexion than to blacken her neighbour's. The particular man gives more trouble and causes annoyance and delay than half a dozen careless people. When he is travelling, he puts his ticket in a place so remarkable secure that not only dishonest people cannot find ifc, but he cannot find it himself.
