THE GOVERNOR AT CHRISTCHURCH.

(By Telegraph.) Christchurch, March 12The Hinemoa arrived at Lyttelton Bhortly before 10 o'clock yesterday morning. The Mayor and members of the Borough Council, and a number of the leading citizens of Lyttelton and Christchurch went on board, and were introduced to the Governor by the Premier. On the Governor's landing a detachment of the Naval Brigade formed a guard of honor, and the Christchurch Artillery fired a salute. The vice-regal party then proceeded to the Colonist's Hall, passing under a handsome triumphal arch en route. On arrival addresses from the Borough Council and the Friendly Societies were read, and the school children sang the National Anthem. The Governor subsequently visited the borough schools and the graving dock, and expresped himself surprised at the Stize of the latter. His Excellency said he hoped it would be extensively used by vessels of H.M. navy, and said he trusted he would be present at the opening. Returning to Lyttelton the party came On to Christchurch by special train. A large crowd was at the station, including the Mayor and memhers of the City Council and the representatives of the several public bodies, the Primate, Mr Justice Johnston, and tbe leading citizens, the City Guard forming a guard of honor. Addresses were read from the City Council, the Selwyn County Council, and the Sunday School Union. The vice regal party were afterwards conveyed in a four-horse drag through the city, the Cavalry forming an escort. In Cathedral Square 1200 school children sang the National Anthem, which was followed by hearty cheers. After making a tour of the town, the Governor was driven to Coker's Hotel, where he resides during his stay. His Excellency and suite attended the theatre in the evening. The Governor this morning visited the Canterbury College and Christ's College Grammar School, afterwards holding a levee in the Provincial Council Chamber, when 120 gentlemen were presented. This afternoou the Governor will visit the Museum and other public buildings.
