LONDON.
March 9. The next series of wool auctions will commence on the 10th May. The total quantity to be offered during the sales will be limited to 350,000 bales. The authorities in Ireland are vigorously employing the powers granted by the Coercion Act for the apprehension of persons guilty or suspected of treasonable conduct. In addition to the arrests already reported to have been made, warrants have been issued and are being duly executed against many other suspected persons. Intelligence has been received from the j West Coast of Africa which giyes a com-
plete disavowal of the reported intention of the Ashantees to attack the British settlements on the coast. The news to hand states that envoys from Ashantee have arrived at Cape Coast Castle, and have assured the Governor that the King has no desire to provoke war with the British.
At the wool sale to-day 800 bales were catalogued. The bidding was animated. It is generally expected that important changes will Bhortly take place in the Cabinet.
