N.Z RIFLE ASSOCIATION'S ANNUAL PRIZE FIRING.
(by telegraph.) Nelson, March 9. Match 17, carbine company match, is completed. The first team of Wellington Navala secured first place with a total of 457. Toe Thames Navals and Alexandria Cevalry,tied for second place with 434, and will have to fire off. The following are the individual scores :—Wellington Navals: A Dixon, 94 ; C. France, 93 ; A. France, 91 ; H. Dixon, 90; Davy, 89. Thames Navals: Gordon, 93; Pareloe and Armstrong, each 92; Thomas, 86 ; Cameron, 71. Alexandria Cavalry : D. Thurston, 82; Perry. 88 ; Laird, 87 ; Somerville, 85; Stitt, 82. In match 16 the following are the scores: —Blenheim Rifles and Stoke Rifles, each 428; Wellington City Rifles, 427; North Dunedin Rifles, 426; Westland Rifles, 418; Nelson City Rifles (second team), 418 ; Spring Creek Rifles, 409; Thames Scottish Rifles. 400. In match 17 the tie between the Thames Navals and Alexandra Cavalry for second place was fired off in the afternoon, when the latter heat their opponents by two points, the Cavalry making 101 and the Navals 99. After the first three the teams took the following order:— Wellington Navals, second team, composed of R. Bennett, Levers, Ingle, Taylor,and Tandy, 484; Nelson Artillery, 421. Match 14, Rifle Companies' trophy. This was won by Hoskins (Taranaki), with 69; Paynter second, with 68 ; Purnell (Wanganui), third, with 67. The other scorers were Weir (Thames), Turner (Blenheim), and Burr (Wellington), each 66; Wilcox (Clutha), Button (Marlborough), ani Wratt (Waimea), each 65; Hooper (Auckland), 64 ; Hay (Auckland), 63; Harding (Oamaru), 61; Lander (Inglewood Rangers), 60; A. Ballinger (Wellington) and HutchinBon (North Dunedin), each 59; Samplon (Westland), and Webster (Dunedin), each f 8 ; Ellis (Nelson), 56 ; Remington (Wanganui), 52; Kitchen (Patea), 52. Match 15, Carbine Companies' trophy. Thla was won by Hood (Nelson Artillery), 76 ; Laird (Alexandra Cavalry), lecond, 75; Armstrong (Thames Navals), "third, 73. The other scores were M'Kenzie (Wellington), 72; A. Dixon (Wellington), 70; Payne (Auckland), 69; Thompaon (Dunedin), 64; M'Leod (Wairoa), 63. For the consolation match the council has not yet fixed the prize list. The 20 highest scores in the match are StarJand (Nelson), 74; Wilson (Otago), 72; 'Marshall (Otago), M'Kenzie (Wellington), and Randall (Wellington), each 71; Wallis (Otago), Howe (Wellington), Kendall (Thames), Gibbin (Stoke), and Armstrong (Wellington), each 70; F. Okey (Taranaki), 69; Trayes (Auckland), Tait (Wellington), Brownfow (Thames), and Colemaa (Waimate), each 68; Harkneae (Stoke), 67; Taylor (Auckland), Hagg (Marlborougb), Hale (Wellington), and Bannister (Wellington), each 66.
