INTERPROVINCIAL CRICKET MATCH.

Canterbury v. Otago,

(BY TELEGRAPH.)

Christchurch, February 25,

This match was commenced at 12.20 yesterday. The sky was cloudy with a smart breeze blowing. The attendance at the start was large. Fowler, the Canterbury captain, won the toss, and put his men in. Watson and Ilartland were the first, Hume and Millington bowling. Both men batted well, Watson in particular driving the bowling about. Twenty-five was reached before Hartland was caught off Hume. His ten included a fine leg hit for 4. Watson and Ashby took the score to £5, the former still hatting well. Haskell went on in Hume's place, and Ashby hit him clean over the flags for six, the only time it has ever been done on this ground. The ball fell considerably over a hundred yards. Ashby was got rid ofjustashe was getting dangerous, running himself out through refusing to run for a hit by his partner. 55—2—13. Redmayne succeeded, and at lunch-time he and Watson were still in. Watson, who is in fine form this season, played splendidly, but he gave one easy chance to Spring at the wickets, which was not accepted. He had then made 20. Redmayne scored very slowly, and played rather shakily to Haskell's bowling. Besides the bowlers already mentioned Paramour was also tried, but be was pushed about a good deal by Watson. The fielding was fair, no chances save Vmt of Watson's being given. When time was called they had seven wickets down for 323. Watson, a left-hauded batsman, played a magnificent innings for 175, giving but three chances.
