WESTPORT.
February 14.
Tho steamer Charles Edward, in coming from Greymouth, struck on a sunken rock off The Steeples, and knocked a hole in ber bottom. She steamed ahead, but the water rose in the engine-room, and ehe then anchored. There was an impenetrable fog at the time. As scon as the accident happened guns were fired. These were heard in Westport, but nothing practicable was done. The steamer Grafton, from Greymouth, was seen by the Charles Edward, great endeavors were made to attract ber attention, but without avail. When information reached Westport of the accident, the Grafton proceeded to the Edward's assistance, and after standing by her all night towed the disabled vessel to Westport, arriving this morning. An enquiry will be held.
