H, (Havelock. —Not of sufficient interest. E&YPT. —The Suez canal works were commenced in 1859, and completed in 1869. A canal, with sufficient water to admit pf the passage of steamboats, was opened in 1865, and two years afterwards small ships could pass through, but the canal was not formally opened till November 17, 1869.
