The Government has announced that the sum of £60 will be spent in completing the torpedo defence of Sydney harbor.

The barque John Knox, which sailed from this port yesterday for Lyttleton, put back to-day for repairs, having met with a heavy sea, and suffered serious injury to her bulwarka.

The Hon. John Watson, the Colonial Treasurer, introduced his financial statement in the Legislative Assembly last night. He estimates the revenue for this year at £5,440,000, and the expenditure at 6,232,000. No material changes are proposed in the estimates of expenditure, except a reduction of one-third in the immigration vote. Mr Watson announced that the railways of the colony are paying 4£ per cent on the capital sunk in their construction. He disclaimed any intention on the part of the Government to raise a Dew loan in tbe London market at present, but stated that a loan for £600,000 might possibly be issued in the colony at an early date.
