THE GOVERNOR AT THE MEANEE.
His Excellency the Governor visited the Meanee this morning, arriving at the Mission Station at 11 a.m., accompanied by the Hon. W. Rolleßton, Captain RusBell, Captain Knollys, and the Governor's private secretary. His Excellency was received at tbe entrance by tho Revd. Father Reignier and the resident clergy, and was conducted by them through the whole of the buildings on the station. The entire company expressed the highest admiration at the new building now rapidly advancing towards completion, which is intended for the use of the aged clergy of this diocese. His Excellency and suite next visited the College, where they were received by the head master, Mr J. A. Rearden, who conducted his distinguished visitors through the building. The schools were next visited and the pupils were examined on various subjects. The following address, which was beautifully illuminated, was then read in a very clear and distinct tone by one of the pupils ; — To His Excellency tho Honorable Arthur Hamilton Gordon, K.C.M.G-., Governor and Commander-in-Chief of Her Majesty's Colony of New Zealand, &c, &c. May it please your Excellency,— On behalf of the pupils of Meanee college, we most respectfully welcome your Excellency to this institution. We wish also to express our sincere gratitude in being thus specially honored by a visit from the representative of Her Most Gracious Majesty, our Noble Queen. We shall always cherish a happy remembrance of your Excellency's visit, and will endeavour to show our appreciation of it, by our fidelity and loyalty to our Queen and country.
Wishing your Excellency every blessing, and also a happy and pleasant termination to your tour in this Island, we have the honor to be your Excellency's obedient children, G. Reardon, W. Flint, W. Frame, P. O'Down, W. Ramsay, R. Neagle, F. Hammond, J. Bradley. W. Robinson,
Meanee College, February 1, 1881. His Excellency then addressed the boys, thanking them very much for their kind wishes, and expressing his admiration at the neatness of their writing, and the rapidity and correctness with which tbey performed the sums given them. The boys then sang the National Anthem, after which the girls sang the New Zealand National Anthem, each receiving the thanks of His Excellency. Having inspected the remaining portion of the buildings, all left shortly after 1 o'clock for Captain Russell's residence Flaxmere.
