MELBOURNE.

January 28. The Geelong Cup was run to-day and was won by Progress. The Melbourne Banks have reduced the rate of interest on deposits to three per cent. The following Exhibition awards to New Zealand exibitors are announced today :—First prizes : Miss Anna Wilson, of Dunedin, for specimen of English point lace ; A. Moore and Co., of Christchurch, for wheat, eti; Royse, Stead and Co., of Christchurch, for twelve samples of cereals. Second prizes : Dr. Hector, for geological maps ; Miss McTavish, of the Thames, for specimens of needlework from New Zealand flax; Marshall and Copeland, of Dunedin, for malt and barley. Third prizes : Board of Education, Napier, for school apparatus; Professor Yon Haast. for geological report; Miss Jessie Logan, of Dunedifi, for lacework ; J. and E. Paul, Marlborough, for barley; Thomas Turman and Co., of Invercargill, for malt; J. Bycroft and Co., of Auckland, for biscuits. Fourth prizes: Walter Deverell, of Invercargill, for specimens of Survey drafting; W. W. G. Spreat, of Wellington, for a map of Otago ; Miss M. F. A. Jones, of Nelson, for point lace. Fifth prizes : Gerald Mueller, of Hokitika, for a map ofWestland; Charles O'Neill, of Wellington j V. Alnoao, of Dunedin, for hats.

The yacht Zephyr, seven tons, owned by Mr Gibbs, of Dunedin, sailed for Port Chalmers on Wednesday last.
