January 24. The cold weather which has prevailed for some time past is now moderating, and a general thaw is fast taking place. The Thames is rapidly becoming clear of ice.

Fresh news has come to hand from Central Asia regarding the war between Russia and the Tekke Turcomans. The former, under cover of bombardment, carried the Turkoman's position close to Geoke Teps, and afterwards made a desperate assault on Treudiea, but were heavily repulsed by the Tekkee. The fighting of both sides was most severe.
