(by telegraph.) Oamaru, January 25. There was a fair attendance at the cricket match yesterday between the Aus-

tralians and twenty-two local players. At ten minutes to 2 o'clock tbe Australians took the field. The twenty-two were quickly disposed of, making a total of 04. Cooke was the only man who made a stand against the bowling of Spofforth and Palmer, making 15 and not out. The Australians then commenced their first innings, Spofforth and Jam's batting to the bowling of Millington and Cooke. Each started with a maiden. Millingtou sent down another maiden, and Spofforth opened by a cut off Cooke for two. In Millington's third over the Adelaide batsman was clean bowled for a duck. I—o—2. Murdoch joined Spoffortb. The latter hit Cooke for a brace. Murdoch then gave a chance to the bowler, which was declined. Murdoch then cut Cooke to the boundary for 3, and afterwards got Millington away to leg for 4, but Millington bad his revenge by bowling Murdoch. 2—12—16. M-Donnell filled the vacancy. Spofforth then got a single. M'Donnell made the hit of the day, driving, one clean out of bounds. Spofforth skied one. MvDonnell called on Spofforth, but he would not move, and M'Donnell was run out. 3-5—23. Slight was the new comer. Spofforth cut one, and through bad fielding 3 runs were obtained. Crooke and Millington bowled three successive maidens. Slight made a drive to leg for 2. Spofforth was then clean bowled by Cooke. 4 — 12—34. Groube now partnered Slight, and opened by cutting Cooke for a single. Another single and 3 byes brought 40 up. Rune began to come freely and a change was made in the bowling. Groube cent one into DeLautour'e bands which was badly muddled. Another single and 50 appeared on the telegraph. Slight got a single. Another change took place in the bowling, Borton going on in place of Cooke. His first and second overs were maidens. The stumps were then drawn for the day. Australians—First] innings. Jarvis, b Millington 0 Spofforth, b Cooke 12 Murdoch, b Millington 12 M'Donnell, run out 5 Slight, not out 16 Groube, not out 20 For four wickets 65 The match was resumed to-day at 11.30, the weather being delightful. Three were added to the score, and then Slight was caught at the ■wickets by Walls off Barton for 17. Bo) le partnered Groube, and the score was carried along to 107, when Boyle was clean bowled by Cooke for 22. Three were scored, and then Groube played one from Cooke on to his wicket, and retired with 30 to his credit. Palmer was shortly afterwards caught by Sumpter, off Cooke for 5, and Blackham was directly afterwards, bowled by Willington for 1. A couple more were made, and White was caught by Dalyetty off Millington for nil. Alexander carried out his bat. With extras the total score of the eleven reached 118 runs.
