January 22.

Intelligence has been received from Transkei that the rebellion is rapidly being quelled. The Pondomese chief Umdithar, with 801 followers has surrendered to the Cape forces, and other bodies of Rebels are expected to shortly submit.

News comes to hand from the Transvaal that tbe Boers recently attacked the town of Bydenbay, where there was a small British garrison, and the latter have been compelled to surrender.
