THE GOVERNOR'S VISIT.
[To the Editor of the Daily T_t___Ai>H.l g IB) —The approaching visit of His Excellency suggests of itself the propriety of receiving and entertaining him while here in a suitable manner. When Sir Hercules Robinson honored this town by his presence, he being a sporting man, the Racing and Jockey Clubs very properly took a prominent part in making his visit agreeable. A very different character is Sir Arthur Gordon. He, it is currently reported, delightetb not in field sports, so horsey men had better keep in the back-ground, and allow others to do what is right and proper on this auspiciaus occasion. In the place of the Town Clerk reading a secular address when the Governor lands on the wharf, the Bishop, Priest, and Deacons, in canonical robes, should meet His Excellency, and, after a short prayer, a procession of mourning coaches might be formed, in which, of curse, the august party would be conveyed to the Temperance Hotel. The evening would be spent in rest. The following morning special prayer meeting tbat the white man may be converted to the ways of the heathen. Afternoon service and discourse; subject, "Te Whiti and the Chatham Islaud murderer." Evening, an entertainment in the Atbenasum, dissolving views of scenes in the Holy Land. Next day, levee; hatbands and black kid gloves. If these suggestions should commend themselves to the Corporation they are quite welcome to them.—l am, &c, Levuka. Napier January 22,1881.
