The dissolving view entertainment at St. John's school-room last evening was not very well attended. Mr Winkleman exhibited the views, and Mr Morrison gave the lecture, which was of a very instructive character. At the close of the entertainment votes of thanks were accorded by acclamation to the exhibitor and lecturer.

Professor Haselmayer had a very fair house at the Theatre Royal last evening on the occasion of his last appearance. He introduced several new and clever tricks that quite mystified the audience. Pressure on our spaoe prevents us givinsr a full report, but the audience testified by applause to the great skill of this wonderful conjuror. Professor and Madame Haselmayer left by the Ringarooma to play a short season in Gisborne. We wish them every success.

In our advertising columns it will be seen that Mr Peters offers that beautiful property, Roseneath, Taradale, for sale. Of the tew " show" places in and near Napier Roseneath takes front rank. The original owner, the late Mr James Wood, spent nearly JESOOO in beautifiying the grounds, and since the property has been in the possession of Mr Petei-.-i further and expensive improvements have been made. There is now no finer garden in the province, while the house is one of the most agreeable residences within a day's drive of Napier.

A meeting of original members of theHawke's Bay Amateur Athletic Club was held at the Masonic Hotel last night for the purpose of adopting rules and election of officers. There were twenty-four members present, Mr Balfour in the chair. The rules adopted were principally taken from those of the South Canterbury and Auckland Amateur Athlectio Clubs. The rule debarring members from competing with professionals provoked some discussion, but eventually was carried as read. The following gentlemen were then elected officers for the ensuing year : —President, Captain Russell, M.H.R.; Vice-President, bis Worship the Mayor; Hon. Secretary and Treasurer, Mr R. A. D. Mowbray; committee, Messrs Balfour, Bogle, Cross, Dewes, Gilberd, Kennedy, Liddle, Westeura, and Whitoome. We believe it is the intention of the committee to hold their first meeting during the Easter holidays. At the conclusion of the proceedings Mr T. W. Balfour offered a three guinea cup to be competed for at the first meeting in a one hundred yard race.
