Jaunary 19. _ Yesterday the Colonial Treasurer visited the Kaiapoi woollen factory, with which be was greatly pieaaed. Michael Havenly and John Coleman, stowaways on board the Rotomahana from Wellington were committed to prison yesterday for seven days each. On Saturday a lunatic named Downing escaped from the asylum, and has not yet been recaptured. The weather continues fine for the harvest.

The Maori prisoners, numbering 149, were removed from Ripa Island to Lyttelton gaol this morning. They were very noisy during the march through town.

Heavy rain fell last night. The weather is fine this mornidg, but a heavy thunderstorm has just commenced. Many crops have been cut, and have not yet been stacked.
