MELBOURNE
January 15. The wreck of the ship Hereford was sold to-day at auction for £7600. The challenge yachting race in the Intercolonial Regatta was sailed to-day. There were 6ix entries. The Victorian yacht Janet was first, the Sydney yacht Secret second, and. the Auckland yacht Taniwha third. There was a fine finish. January 16. The Intercolonial yachting Regatta held yesterday at Port Philip passed off successfully. There was a large attendance on the flagship, and the weather was fine, with'a good breeze. The grand challenge race was over a forty-five mile course, and was won, as already telegraphed, by the Janet, which came in one minute ahead of the Taniwha, followed by the Secret, which took second prize on her time allowance. All the yachts sailed well, and the finish of the race was very exciting. The third-class match was won by the Zephyr. January 17.
