The awards to wool exhibits at the Exhibition were announced to-day. The Mew Zealand exhibitors take the following prizes:—-In Merinos, Mr Gollan, of Maungotataru, second ; scoured Merinos, Messrs Young and Dalgetty, of Oamaru, first; long ssoured, Mr Williams, of Mangateretere, second ; long unwashed, Mr Tanner, of Riverslea, second ; Mr Blair, of Wanganui, third. Sir Samuel Wilson takes the champion prize for wool at the exhibition. The show of grain and agricultural produce opens at the Exhibition on the 23rd February.

A letter appears in the Argus drawing attention to the disagreement which exists between the New Zealand and New South Wales Governments regarding the tariff for telegraph messages between Australia and New Zealand. Negotiations for the reduction of the tariff consequent on the departure of the cable repairing ship Agnes from Australia were proceeding for some time, but finally failed. The New Zealand Government has, however, reduced the rates on messages from New Zealand, # but the charges from Australia remain at the original rates. Governments should be referred to the inter-colonial conference which meets in Sydney on the 13th instant. January 11.

In the Corio Bay regatta the Victorian yacht Janet was first with the Aucklaud yacht Taniwha second. The ship Hereford, bound from London to this port, has become a total wreck on Cape Patten (Cape Patterson on the Victorian coast). All lives have been saved.
