Government Type.
( To the Editor of the Southern rost.) Sir, — Can you inform me, and those of the com- j -munity who have become cognizant of the matter, on what condition the type (termed brevier) with -which the Chronicle is new printed, was obtained about a fortnight ago, by the printer of that paper, from the Government. It is the best portion of the -20001bs. of type the Government purcha«ed, at so high a figure, from the Company, and which I guppose the Superintendent of Printing now considers unnecessary for printing the Government Gazette, as it never exceeds four or five pages of foolscap. Some say the Government has sold at a great lo»8, ■ and others, that a system of barter has been adopted ; whilst many are of opinion that it is inertly n matter of accommodation, which any newspaper printer in the place could have had ; supposing they gave publicity to communications supplied to them by an Eduor of Government appointment. However, as -few of their illegal manoeuvres escape your watchful eye for public good, it is most probable that you can ■ solve the terms of this bargain. Yours, &c, AN OBSERVER.
