NOTICE TO CORRESPONDENTS.

We quite agree with " A. Subscriber," that the Police Magistrate has not the power of ordering persons to be flogged in a free country. We detest the very idea of such beastly and degrading punishment. He is also right in condemning the conduct of the Sheriff in requiring his officers to undertake the degrading task' of inflicting it. No .man possessed of any f elf-respect could be txpected go to degrade himself. We hear the Sheriff threatens to dismiss his officers for refusing. We trust on hji qwn account, he has more sense and feeling.
