Prelude To Opening Of New Season ««> (By St. Simon, i The combined race meeting of the Taranaki and Egmont-Wanganui Hum Clubs, which will be held iu New Plymouth next week will serve as a useful prelude to the opening of the spring season at Wanganui a week later. Ln the programme are several horses who have been spelling through the winter and will be making their first appearance for the new season. An interesting runner will be Cord-ay, one of the best performed handicap horses in the season before last, but an absentee for a long lime on account of lameness, lip has stood up to his recent work satisfactorily and is boHeved to be thoroughly sound again. Acceptances for the meeting close tomorrow evening and withdrawals will have to be heavy if the clubs are not to be embarrassed with division races. The Galvin Appeal.

The rehearing of the appeal of the Jockey, I. Galvin, by the Wanganui district committee, is set down for Tuesday. August 26. at 2 p.m. Awaptini Debutants. Endcarer. Held Up. t . The peace celebrations in Christchurch held up a number of North Island trainers who dirt not reach Wellington till Tuesday of -this week.
