There is no trouble to get coal, as a fellow comes round the stret selling it. Clothes are, as always, very reasonable. Men’s suits arc from £5/12/- upward, aud take 38 to 42 coupons. Socks range from 2/6 to 4/6 a pair, shirts from 14/6 to 22/6 aud 12 coupons, shoes from 18/6 UP and eight coupons, overcoats 25./- up and 40 coupons. We get. 56 coupons every six months, 112 a year. The only queues we have seen so far' are for beer and cigarettes.

“You can get as much crystallized fruit as you want, such as pineapple and cherries. Mixed cake fruits are 1/2| % pound, dates 1/6 aud figs 2/8. We are still getting plenty of electricity and gas. I can assure you that all I have told you is correct, as we have found this out sinee we arrived.’’

Clothing and Woollies. _ A quantity of merchant navy wool was distributed at the August meeting of the Stokes Valley Wonieu’e Institute, aud several pairs of socks and one pullover were handed in from a previous wool issue. Several children’s garments, remade from discarded ones, were entered in competition, first prize being gained by Mrs. Huse with’Mrs. Firniston second. These garments are to be forwarded tp the Lady Galway Guild. The best flower was exhibited by'Mrfc. Guise. The programme comprised play reading by Mesdames Summers and Tanner, roll call, haiidy hints and problems.
