Increase Over Previous / Season Final figures for the killing season to July 28 have been announced by Hie New Zealand Ment Producers’ Board. There has been a certain amount of activity at the freezing works since the killings to June 30 were announced, and tlie totals show a distinct increase on the totals for the previous season, except, the beef figure. Export killings al. New Zealand works to July 28 are set out below in comparison with corresponding details for the previous season in parentheses, to July 29, 1944:— NORTH ISLAND. Lambs, 5,705,12(5 (5,749,027); wethers, 090,994 (581,700); ewes, 1,232,880 (1,379,095). SOUTH ISLAND. Lambs, - 4,893,949 (4,759,340); wethers, 73,325 (50,790); ewes, 732,790 (583,0-13), DOMINION TOTALS. Lambs (c/es.), 10,059,075 110,o0S,973); wethers (c/cs.), 770.229 (611,556); ewes (c/cs.), 2,015.670 (1,962,738); beef (qrs.), 890,151 (482,816). The following figures show that the Increase iu average, weights thia season has been an important factor in the increased export tonnage of meat. The figures ol the previous season, in parentheses, show the improvement:— NORTH ISLAND. Lambs, 34.19 (32.74); wethers, 59.19 (55.62); ewes, 57.14 (53.08). SOUTH ISLAND.. Lambs, 35.05 (34.61); wethers, 51,02 (49.66): ewes, 53.13 (51.58). Stocks of meat iu cool store awaiting export at the end of July were appreciably lower than at the corresponding date o£ I!M4, indicating that the Dominion's substantial increase iu production has not been handicapped by shipping shortage, and Hint the outlook in this respect tor the coming season is good.
