NEW HEALING AGENT
Discovery In New York (Received July 4, 10 p.m.) NEW YORK, July 3. A new drug which will heal many wounds formerly believed incurable has been discovered by Mr. Rene Dubos, an American research chemist at the Rockefeller Institute for Medical Research. The drug called tyrothricin is said to act magically on carbuncles, boils and ulcers. It will not supplant the sulpha drugs and penicillin. . Mr. Dubos discovered tyrothricin while experimenting with microbes found in earth. He noticed that earth scorned to destroy the most dangerous germs and that when victims of tuberculosis, plague or pneumonia were buried, the. germs were destroyed. After isoirting microbes from forth. Mr. Dubos found tluit chemical secreted by them destroyed ail other bacteria. His first patient was a man who had suffered from a bad leg ulcer for 14 years. Three weeks after spraying the ulcer with tyrothricin. the Icir was completely healed.
