SENATOR KEANE HOME

The .Minister of Trade and Customs, Senator Keane, who returned today from New Zealand, said he was extremely impressed by the excellent social achievements of the Dominion’s Labour Government. He was also impressed by the absence of beer and tobacco rationing iu New Zealand. During a week's goodwill tour Im conferred with New Zealand Ministers on reverse lend-lease, price fixing, ami housing, in addition to all aspects of rationing. Senator Keane ■,.'iid that during bis visit lo New Zealand he was struck by the extraordinary similarity of New Zealand's problems to those of Australia. It extended to all sections of the war effort. Without housing, there was the same shortage of manpower and basic materials as in Australia. He was particularly impressed with Now Zealand’s housing scheme, which was the best in Australasia. He also commented on the complete absence of liquor abuses in New Zealand. A report on Senator Keanes visit will bo presented to Cabinet.
