"The liberation of the Cherbourg Peninsula is now complete,” says today’s Allied communique. “The last enemy resistance in )he Cape de la Hague area ceased early yesterday morning. “The enemy in the area south of Tilly-sur-seulles repeatedly countered against tile western flank of our Odon River bridgehead, but Allied positions remain firmly intact. Tile troops held down by tlie enemy holding action can now be released for other operations.
