BAY OF ISLANDS HYDROELECTRIC PROPOSAL

The Bay of Islands Power Board yeS) tr-rda.v decided to send a deputation to the Minister of Public Works- seeking permission to develop a bydro-eieetric schmile for eonernting power at Lake Omni,ere. 'rite consulting engineer, Mr. Lloyd Mandeno, estimated the cost of raising the level of the 3000-tmre lake to provide a fall of GOO feet into the Utukura Valley, and the building of two power stations at £190,000, to develop 16.500,000 units, which would suffice for the present needs of the Bay of Islands area, together with the reticulation of the Hokinngn and Whangaroa counties and provide a surplus for assisting the rest of the North Island in an emergency.
