BIRTHDAY BALL

W.A.A.C.’s Celebrate Second Anniversary As a special “once a year ’ privilege, W A A.C.’s attending the ball held at me Majestic Cabaret. Wellington, last night to celebrate the second birthday of tlie N.Z.W.A.A.C., were allowed to doff uniforms and enjoyed the few hours revelry iu almost forgotten evening frocks. The ball was given by the Chief Commander, Mrs. V. Jowett, 0.8. E., aud members ot the W.A.A.C. at Array Headquarters. 4.j0 guests being present. Mrs. Jowett was chief hostess and the ball convener was Miss M. C. Bullard, staff officer. W.A.A.C. This year the birthday cake will again be kept uncut and is to be sent to Lady Freyberg for New Zealand AV .A.A.C. s serving in Italy. Last year’s cake went to the Middle East, when it was cut at a partv given by Lady Freyberg for all the girls. An appropriate message of greetings will accompany the cake. Flags aud flowers were used in decorations. Sergeant-Major Chatwick was master of ceremonies and a ballet dauee was performed by Signalwoman L. Kay. helped to swell the large attendance. Several W.A.A.C.’s back from overseas service were among the guests. A number of special guests were invited to be present. They were: Mrs. E. Put tick, Brigadier A. E. Conway and Mrs. Conway. Brigadier H. E. Avery and Mrs. Avery. Brigadier W. G. Gentry and Mrs. Gentry. Mrs. S. H. Crump. Mrs. W. G. Stevens. Mrs. N. W. Weir. Mrs. G. B. Parkinson. Mrs. K. L. Stewart, Senior Commander E: Whyte, Brigadier Williams and Mrs. Williams, Colonel D. T. Maxwell and Mrs. Maxwell. LieutenantColonel McHugh and Mrs. McHugh. Lieutenant-Colonel Bown and Mrs. Bown. Mr. and Mrs. Dwyer. Mr. and Mrs. Slater. The W.B.N.S. was represented by First Officer H. Fenwick nnd the W.A.A.F. by the superintendent, Mrs. E. Carlyon.
