OBITUARY

Mr. F. E. J. RaCtliffe The death has occurred of a prominent Masterton resident, Mr. Frank E. J. Ratcliffe, states a “Dominion” Special Service message. Mr. Ratcliffe was born at Gloucestershire, England, 68 years ago, and went to the AVairarapa as a young man. He was a successful farmer, and farmed at Te Ore. Ore before living in retirement at Masterton. He is survived Iby his wife and a daughter. Mr. D. P. Buchanan The death occurred recently at Feilding of Mr. David Buchanan, aged 87 years. He had lived at Mayfield, I< eliding. for the ptist 58 years Born at Bragborough Hall, Warwickshire, England, and educated at Rugby School, Mr. Buchanan went to Australia in a sailing ship at the age of 19. Ho farmed in Victoria for 10 years before coming to New Zealand. He was a foundation member of the ManawatuA. & P. Association, the Cheltenham dairy factory, and the Feilding Club. He was auditor for many years of the Hereford Herd Book and was an. authority ou the English Herd Book in this country. He took an active part on the Romney Marsh Association. In 1887 Mr. Buchanan married the daughter of General Mein. His second wife predeceased him last year. He is survived by six sons and three daughters.
