PROBATION FOR YOUTHFUL THIEF
“Though tiie probation officer is doubtful whether you should be admitted to probation, I have decided to give you a chance to make good by admitting you to probation for two years,” said Mr. Stout, S.M., in Hie Magistrates’ Court. Wellington, yesterday when William Charles Kidd, factory hand, aged 18, who had pleaded guilty on Friday to 12 charges of having stolen at Wellington between May I<> and June 8 of tills year wallets, watches, tobacco, cigarettes, and money, of a total value of about £34, appeared for sentence. The magistrate imposed a special condition that restitution be made of £l6/4/3, and that accused take work found for him by the probation officer. “This is your last chance,” he warned accused, aud you’ve trot to take it.”
