OBITUARY
Mr. H. P. West The death occurred in Wellington recently of Mr. Hector Porteous West. He wns born in Wanganui in 187-8. and spent his boyhood days there, and at Kuinara -and Soutbbridgc. Mr. West joined the Railways Department in 1888. and was stationed for a short time at Southbridge. In 1891 he was transferred to Christchurch. Ho spent a year in the head office in Wellington, and from 1904 to 1913 be was relieving stationmaster at Dunedin. He was at Invercargill for six years, being traffic inspector there for most of that time. Later he was in the traffic manager's office at Wanganui, and tilled the positions of stationmaster at Marton ami Napier. He returned to Dunedin in 1920. and was district traffie from 1924 to 1928. when he retired from the service. Leaving Dunedin at the end of 1942 on Recount of failing health. Mr. West lived in Timaru. before comine t<» Wellington. He is survived by his wife, one son. the Rev, IT. W. West, chaplain overseas, and two daughters, Mrs. A. C. Feilding, and Miss Nest a West.
