NOT GOING TO SLEEP
Electors’ Association States Its Plans ‘"IVe are not going to sleep between elections,” said Mr. 11. ,R. Searle, chairman of the Greater Wellington Electors' Association, yesterday when he outlined the programme to whieh the association would- give its attention. The initial success was the election of its candidate's; the primary object was the promotion of the welfare and development of Wellington and suburbs. The association had set out this programme: Housing, slum clearance, transport, water, airport extension, civic centre, recreational facilities, zoning, hospital board rating, the stimulation of civic pride. It well knew war conditions would prevent immediate results. But they did not prevent the preparation of plans after considering the views of all who had a worthwhile contribution to make. The association hoped to promote a scheme whereby district organizations would be represented on a central executive which would then have the benefit of a wide-scale and personally presented picture of all city and suburban needs. The natural result would bo that worthwhile claims, from whatever district, would be pressed bv the representatives of all. Committees to deal with each plank of the programme would be formed, each composed of men and women best fitted to make useful contributions to the particular subject. ’The co-operation of suburban associations was particularly sought.
