Further Increase In Killings The fortnightly return of export meat killings prepared by the N.Z. Meat Producers’ Board shows further improvements in output to June 10, compared with the previous fortnightly statement. Wethers which were 29,000 fewer than in the previous season are now 13,000 down; lambs instead of a drop of 932,000 carcases* are down by 803,000; and ewes which had shown an excess of 88.000 this season have further improved by 60,000 carcases, the killings being now in advance of last season to -the extent of 148,000. Total killings to June 10, with figures for the previous season in parentheses are as follows: —Lambs, 9,959,848 (10,793,372); wethers, 588,142 (601,284); ewes, 1,841,702 (1,693,276). Beef (quarters), 318,268 (518,602); boneless beef (freight carcases), 479,918 (792,502); and bobby veal 65,298 ( 78,816). Average killing weights to June 10 have been as follows: Lambs—Dominion average 33.621 b. (33.521b.)—N0rth Island: 32.751 b. (32.471 b. South Island: 34.701 b. (34.711 b. wethers: Dominion averages: 55.211 b. (54.381 b. North Island. 55.751 b. (54.971 b. South Island: 49.791 b. (49.031 b. The average weight of ewes is 52.72 lb., compared with 54.481 b. in the preceding season —North Island. 53.081 b. (55.751b.)—50uth Island: 51.481 b. (51.651 b. , Many of the supervising graders reports mention that stock are wintering well. Most freezing works were in operation on June 22. the main activity being in cattle, which may prolong the killing season at some works in Wellington district till the end of July. The output of the three Southland works has been slightly better than last season. Otago works will finish up much better than was expected early in the season.
