SCARLET FEVER CASES

(By Telegraph.—Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, June 2G. A. gicw record in scarlet fever notifications was set last week, when 74 cases were reported in Canterbury, with a further eight cases on the West Coast. The district medical officer of health. Dr. J. 11. Blakelock, said today that the high number of notifications did not signify any definite increase in the incidence of the disease. The notifications fluctuated each week and the present figure was within the genera] fluctuation. Notifications had been in the 70 class before and they also had dropped below 50. There was no suggestion of closing the schools. While scarlet fever has reached epidemic form in Canterbury, the outbreak is not general throughout. Now Zealand, the only other health district seriously affected being Wellington.
