GUEST PERFORMANCES FOR THE FORCES

Wellington’s service club hospitality for the hundreds of service men and women who besiege club lounges and canteens during their off-duty hours, culminated in a variety of programmes at the weekend. Outdoor sports arrangements for a party of seamen were cancelled, but film screenings, dances, music, light sketches, and everything, that went under the general heading of entertainment, could be found at virtually all the service centres. Three professional entertainers, Miss Lily Moore, comedienne, Mr. Allen Christie, tenor, and Mr. Sam Stern, comedian, from the J. C. Williamson All-Star Comedy Company now playing at the Grand Opera House, last night made a voluntary apeparance at the Allied Services Club and gave a generous series of items. Their histrionic and vocal talents were applauded by a crowded audience, variety also marked the entertainments staged elsewhere. Members of the Maori reinforcements were the guests _of the Ngati-Poneke Committee at their usual weekly dance on Saturday night, nnd yesterday crowds of Maori soldiers took advantage of the committee’s invitation to attend the afternoon and evening concerts which had been specially arranged for them.'
