E.F.S. DISBANDED
Fire Board Chairman’s Protest At the meeting of the Wellington Fire Board on Friday a circular was received from the Minister of Internal Affairs notifying the board of the disbandment of the Emergency Fire S,. rv ieo—the organization set up to assist the tire brigades during wartime emergency. The only exception to the disbandment order is the Auckland E.l’ .S.. which remains in being on account, of the Government’s many interests there and its close proximity to the war zone. The chairman. Mr. S. S. Dean, considered a mistake was being made in disbanded an organization which had called for so much trouble and hard training in practical fire-fighting. It would have been sounder to have followed the example of Canada, where the A.F.S. (the equivalent to the E.F.S. here! had been retained for the duration of the war. Perhaps such an organization would be the more valuable in New Zealand, as a country that was subject to earthquakes and fires that invariably succeeded them.
