EVIL OF ABORTION

Need Seen For Immediate Action Reference to the abortion evil in New Zealand was made at this week's meeting of the Wellington Chamber of Commerce by Mr. F. C. Pears, who emphasized the importance of rousing public opinion and inducing the Government to take immediate action. The facts revealed in a recent report of the Dominion Settlement Association about this evil, he said, were of a most alarming nature, "It would appear that one out of every three children who should be born in New Zealand is murdered before birth, and that some 15,0)0 potential New Zealanders are lost to us in this manner every year,” said Mr. Pears. “How indescribably shocked we should be if 15,000 New Zealanders were killed in some disaster, yet the effect on our population and ultimate national welfare is just the same. The problem of abortion involves urgent ethical and medical issues, and it is of vital national importance that it should be tackled without delay.”
