Lived Up To Trials. Ever since Irish Chance has been located at Trentham there have been few better track gallopers than this daughter of Irish Lancer and Bo Peep, but till she won at Manawatu on Saturday she would not reproduce her private form in public. Irish Chance is a four-year-old mare and her dam. Bo Peep, was 24 when Irish (_’hanee was foaled. Bo Peep was one or the best sprinters of her time. She was bv Benzonian from Shepherdess, and was bred at the Waikanae Stud by Mr. lan Duncan. Her contribution to racing history as a brood mare was of no account and she died in 1940 within a year of foaling Irish Chance. Irish Chance is raced by* Mrs; I. G. McKeen, and is trained by P. «T. Reardon. Dentil of Amateur Rider. Gunner Oswald Redstone, whose death in action was reported last week, was a wellknown amateur rider around the Manawatu district up till the time he went overseas with the New Zealand forces. He was a brother of the well-knowh jockey. D. W. Redstone.
Change of Quarters. The three-year-old Broiefort gelding, Signal Light, who was brought to the Manawatu meetings by F. S. Hill, was left at Awapuni and has joined up with C* J. Thomson’s team. He is a -lialfbrother to Miss Hallomet and Mise Phaleron and has shown promise iii his recent races.
Good Novice Hurdler. Not many novice hurdlers having their first run in public jump with such confidence as Hard Frost did at Awapuni. and if High Morale had not taken him on in front for the whole journey Sandy Cape would have had a much more difficult task for he was favoured with the run of the race.
Dwelt nt the Start. In the two starts he has had since comin<»- back to racing after a spell Sovereign Lad has stood flat footed at the barrier and lost a lot of ground. Earlier in the season Sovereign Lad showed useful form both in the hack’and open grades.
Po-TTnka Unlucky. . m Beaten a head bv Hakim in the Trafalgar Handicap at Awapuni. Po-Huka was unlucky as 'he stumbled and lost his balance five furlongs from home. This probably cost him the race. Gothic Lame. , . Gothic put in a spectacular run to reach a close fourth in the Trafalgar Handicap, but he pulled up very lame.
Her First Fall. This is the third season that Authoress has been jumping and she experienced her first fall in the Montgomery Hurdles. She shared the pace with Mountain lox. who did not allow her too much room at twoof the fences, but she fell at the five furlongs through not measuring the fence. Iler trainer. H. Griffith, stated that she did not take any harm from the fall.
Mountain Fox Sold. The decision to snell Mountain Fox was amended as the horse was sold last week to Mr. R. Christie. New Plymouth. He win remain in 11. Pillion's stable. The nnproved state of the track on Saturday enallied him to run a much better race in the Montgomery Hurdles than he did tn ‘the Centurv Hurdles at Marton. However, it was onlv the confident manner in widen Noble Fox was ridden from the last tenee that allowed Mountain Fox to run his stablemate to half a length.
